Doc welcomes fellow Bad Wolves guitarist, Chris Cain, to the show and they talk about how Chris got into guitar, growing up in Iowa, falling into the hardcore/metalcore scene and almost immediately hitting the road with Too Pure Too Die, getting his 1st break playing guitar with Sacramento band Elysia, how he went from playing with For The Fallen Dreams to playing in Bury Your Dead, why he left Bury Your Dead and went back home to Iowa, getting into guitar teching for pop acts, and why he was willing to sacrifice a stable career to join Bad Wolves.

In a very unique episode of the Ex-Man, Doc speaks with two listeners and fans of the podcast. First, Doc converses with Matt Neufeld, a defense attorney from Texas, about why he likes the Ex-Man podcast, how he got into law, and delve into the complexities of the modern criminal justice system. They also discuss the NBA and the San Antonio Spurs in the show outro.

In the 2nd half of the show, Doc speaks with Thomas Crawford, guitarist of songwriter of the band Ceraphym. They discuss his evolution of trying to build a band while also maintaining a demanding career and moving cross country, the advantage of modern technology like Superior Drummer in songwriting with band members that aren’t local, and what the challenges of being an independent artist in the ever-changing heavy music world entail.

Doc Is Touring with Mark Morton of Lamb of God

Hello friends! I will be playing guitar with Mark Morton from Lamb of God’s solo band on a short US tour this month. Having been friends with Mark forever and even filling in for him before in LoG, it’s an honor to be considered for this gig. If you haven’t checked out the record, it’s called Anesthetic and it’s available now everywhere you buy or stream music. You may have heard the incredible track “Crossed Off” which features the last recorded material from the late Linkin Park frontman, Chester Bennington.

The rest of the band is rounded out by Art Cruz (Winds of Plague, Prong) on drums and Mark Morales and Nick Villareal from Sons of Texas on vocals and bass. We will be co-headlining with Light The Torch feat. Howard Jones (ex-Killswitch Engage) and one of my favorite bands, Moon Tooth.
